Frosted Glass

Frosted or sandblasted glass (also referred to as satin, obscure or privacy glass) is a type of glass that offers privacy due to its opaque look. The frosted effect is created by roughening the surface of the glass using either sand blasting or acid etching. Frosted obscure glass is often used for glass partitions and doors, shower screens, balconies and balustrades, commercial signage, and more.

Some types of obscure glass is manufactured by applying a frosted film to the glass. This not permanent and abc Glass Processing do not use self adhesive glass coverings. Our obscure glass is produced by sandblasting or adding frosted inter-layers for laminated glass.

At abc Glass, our experts use a sandblasting process to create a permanent frosted effect on a sheet of glass. This is done by roughening the surface of the glass to create a white “frosted” look. We can even customize the level of frosting on the glass by making extra passes over the surface with our sandblasting process.

Our glass sandblasting service is offered for most types of glass, including clear, opti-clear, tinted, coloured, and mirrored glass. To protect frosted glass, we apply a RITEC Clearshield treatment at the final stage of processing to prevent smudges and finger-marks. Our frosted laminated glass is produced using obscure and satin inter-layers between sheets of glass to produce a sandblasted effect.

We offer custom frosting styles based on your preferences. As well as frosting the entire sheet of glass, we can create custom frosted shapes such as a block prints and stripes. This option is popular for glass partitions and shower screens, providing a degree of privacy while still letting a degree of light in.

Yes. All frosted and sandblasted types of glass transmit a certain amount of light, but the obscure effect can be increased or decreased by the degree of frosting applied to the glass.

Unfortunately, no. But we can create a wide range of different shapes and effects for frosted sandblasted glass, including block prints, borders, stripes, lettering, and logos for signs.
